Walking around Rosendal

We went for  a little walk around Rosendal on Thursday night.

I took my mom to the church

To the Steinparken

And to the Teeter Totter.

But teeter tottering with my mom is very dangerous!

We also went to the Barony and my mom couldn't get over how narrow the roads are. So here's a picture to show you what their like. One of me almost fills up the entire road!

We ended the night at the fairy tale pond at the Barony

Fast Boat, Buses, and Ferries

Since Norway closes down over Easter Break, I decided to take my mom to Rosendal. I checked and doubled check the boat schedules to make sure everything would work out. I even asked one of the workers on the boat what their schedule was going to be over Easter. He told me it was going to be the normal schedule.......He lied. That means instead of the boat coming at 8:30 it wouldn't come until 3:45. That means we wouldn't arrive in Rosendal until 5:00 and by then it wasn't really worth it to go to Rosendal.  Luckily the information center was still open and they told us that we could take a bus. We just had to wait three hours, and drag our suitcases to the other side of Bergen.  We decided why not.....

Getting ready to catch the fastboat

Lucky us we were on the third floor.

Trying to figure out why there is no boat waiting for us

Taking a break from hauling our suitcases around

While waiting for the bus we decided to try our luck with hitch hiking

My mom thought a little leg might help

No one picked us up so we got on the bus. Which actually turned out better than the fast boat. We got to ride on not one but TWO ferries!! And the bus just drove up on there like no big deal.  The first time we drove up I didn't realize what was happening until I looked out the window and saw water rushing by. My mom and I rushed off the bus so we could see what was happening.

This is what riding buses does to us!

Fantoft Stave Church

My mom and I also found this stave church.

It wasn't the easiest thing in the world to find but it was worth it.

A stave church is a medieval wooden, Christian, church building.

This church was originally built in 1150. Sadly the real one burned down in the 1990's and they rebuilt it so this is a replica.

We did learn that the stone cross was made sometime around the year 1000.

Since it was winter season we couldn't tour the inside.

I guess that gives me a good excuse to come back!

Mt. Ulriken

My mom and I went to the top of Mt. Ulriken. It is the tallest of the seven mountains surrounding Bergen. We debated if we should do it or not, but everyone said with the nice weather the views would be great.

To get to the top you can either take the cable car or hike. If we had more time and knew where we were going we would have hiked, but this time we just took the cable car.

This was first time ever in a cable car!
